All customs from around the world, independent from each other, hold December 25 as a sacred “holy” day of feasting. In Roman-Greco-Egyptian antiquity, the festival came to be known as “Saturnalia” and paid tribute to Saturn, whom we believe they worshipped as the “life giver.” To this society, Saturn was the “agricultural God of sowing and husbandry,” and to Saturn they would dedicate sacrifices, in exchange for another spring, and they held a feast that ended with everyone going home and exchanging special gifts. The fact is, it is the winter solstice. It is the darkest period of the year, after which the days start to get longer again a few seconds a day. There's more to Saturnalia, but the important thing about this festivity is to create a "giving" atmosphere, and to understand how to use the most versatile decoration of all: the ribbon! Their quality, their foldability, their shine, their hues, and their place in decorating a NYC style Christmas wherever you are! Transform any location into a special and magical place. NYC and Christmas have a long-standing love affair. At least once in your life, Christmas and New Year’s in NYC is something everyone should experience. The colors red and gold are the thematic hues of the holiday season in NYC. It’s the color of the gif-wrapped boxes people are carrying, or the color of the garlands they’ve just purchased to decorate the Christmas tree, the colors of scarves, hats, and gloves, dresses, jackets, and ties, and ceremonialsupplies.com has the perfect Christmas ribbon to match any NYC Christmas ribbons décor!

Decorate NYC Christmas Ribbons Style

The winter solstice is a special occasion and has been since the creation of the four seasons. There are religious dogmas that label the recognition of this astrological event as devil worshipping. Some of us at ceremonialsupplies.com celebrate the winter solstice, but we only worship cats. NYC being the city of lights, all through its boroughs of Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island there are people who have settled from all parts of the world, bringing their winter celebration customs with them, and further enlightening the city. This has created the unique NYC Christmas style. Decorate the lampposts outside your home the way Manhattan decorates the lampposts on Central Park. Red Christmas ribbons and lights create the spirit of the holiday more than anything else, and at ceremonialsupplies.com, we’re all about ribbons! Our extensive assortment of ceremonial ribbons for special ceremonies like a grand opening event, or a ribbon-cutting ceremony are ideal for all types of decorations. Our ceremonial ribbons range in width sizes from 2.25” ribbons to 4” wide ribbons and 6” wide ribbons and extra-wide ribbon sizes of 8”, 10” and 12” width (1 foot wide). Our ceremonial ribbons are available plain, customized with your own commemorative message, logo, or date, or pre-printed with the words “Grand Opening” for grand opening ceremonies. Red ceremonial ribbon is a classic for Fifth Avenue shops, while Times Square is aglow with Christmas ribbon colors! Ice-skating under the Christmas tree and the statue of Prometheus at Rockefeller Center is a NYC tradition. The statue is 18 feet tall and was sculpted by Paul Manship, and cast in Queens, NY in 1934. During the holidays, Rockefeller Center’s Prometheus is decorated with a red scarf! You can bring this distinct NYC ribbon tradition to your own holiday event. Event planners will know how to recreate the atmosphere of a NYC Christmas in any venue of your choice. Red bows and red ribbons NYC style!

Recreating the NYC Winter without the Chill Factor

We might as well come right out and tell you this is not possible. It can be close, but replicating the temperatures that make your legs turn purple is not feasible, or practical and probably not safe either. But we love those chilly freezing temperatures, we just pretend to complain. To recreate the special feeling evoked by NYC Christmas is to decorate with ribbons of red, gold, green, and silver. Blue and silver are holiday colors, and so is black, and these, are prominent colors of the season used by people who celebrate Hanukkah, and Kwanza, but to create the atmosphere unique to NYC Christmas time, start with reds, and follow with gold! Whether you’re organizing a Christmas dinner for the staff in a private venue, or decorating for a ballroom Christmas wedding, or an outdoor function such as a groundbreaking ceremony or a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the best way to create that special NYC Christmas feeling is to frame the area with red ribbons. For the effect of grandeur in the chosen area, start by gathering extra-wide red ribbon at the center of the ceiling to create a lavish, ribbon canopy. To create a lavish ribbon canopy, or a large, round metal ring attached to the center of the room – in some venues, it may be possible to use the central room fixture from where to drape the ribbons. The ceiling ring from where the ribbons will be draped should be proportionate to the size of the room. For example, to decorate say, a castle’s banquet hall, you would use a giant spiral hanging from the ceiling from which you can hang eight (8) partitions of 12” wide ribbon. For a wedding ballroom, four (4) or six (6) partitions of smaller width ribbons of 8” or 10” will be appropriate, and for decorating a room in the house, a ring with four partitions for 10” ribbon will be perfect! Once you have the extra-wide ribbon set up, you can layer a smaller width gold ribbon over the red, and after the red –wide ribbon is in place, layer a smaller width green ribbon over the gold. If you choose to have six partitions of 12” ribbons, you will have six red ribbons of 12” each, flowing outward from the ring, and draping down and over the sidewalls. The gold ribbon should be an 8” extra-wide ribbon, and the green ribbon should be 6” wide. This layering of red, green, and gold Christmas ribbons is the skeleton from which you can attach, or hang, shiny, reflective objects of decoration for a NYC Christmas style ballroom decoration! Think of tiny bells, gold color framed mirrors, tiny flower led lights, and you’re on your way to creating a NYC Christmas vibe.
